Vietnam’s 2010 International Trade Fair (Vietnam Expo), to be held in Hanoi from April 14-17, will showcase the country’s potential exports in expectation of increasing exports and expanding partnership networks.

The categories of goods to be on display at the 700 stands are on the list of Vietnam’s major export staples, including agro-forestry-seafood and general foodstuffs; interior furniture and décor; fine arts; garments and footwear; construction materials and equipment; the electric and electronic industries and trade services.

Nearly 400 enterprises from Vietnam and 17 other countries and territories, including the US , China , Hong Kong , Taiwan , Japan , Malaysia , the Republic of Korea , Cuba , Laos and Cambodia will attend this year’s fair, themed “ Vietnam -A Great Opportunity for Trade and Investment.”

At a press briefing on April 6, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien, said that the 2010 Vietnam Expo will be an excellent opportunity for Vietnam to expand its trade links with countries overseas as the country is taking over the ASEAN chairmanship and will soon play host to the 16 th ASEAN Summit. Furthermore, the year 2010 marks the beginning of free trade agreements between Vietnam and ASEAN and ASEAN with three major trading partners, namely Japan, China and Australia.

During the four-day event, the 20 th of its kind, enterprises, both domestic and from abroad will have the chance to meet and seek out new partners.

Since it was first held in 2000, the Vietnam Expo has proved to be an important bridge linking Vietnam with overseas economic-trade organisations and has brought around many opportunities for exports, investment, trade and the transfer of technologies.

As many as 526 export and trade investment contracts and agreements were signed at the 2009 Vietnam Expo./.
